Cat6509 SUP720 IOS Migration to 12.2(18)SXF

I am running a Cat6509 with redundant SUP720 under IOS 12.2(18)SXD6.

Which steps are necessary in order to migrate to IOS 12.2(18)SXF in

installed image mode ?

Is it necessary first to install the binary image mode and to reboot the

switch in order to use the installer ?

Hi,

You have to first copy the bin file to the bootflash of the sup engine and then point the router and switch both to boot from the sup-bootflash:. Make sure that you booth path points correctly in both router and switch. If you do a show boot it will show you the boot path on the router side. use the command " remote command switch show boot " to see the boot path on the switch or you cna remotely login on the switch using the command " remote login switch " and check the boot path and also config-register setting there.

Yes you have to reload the sup in order to boot it from the new IOS. if you have redundent sup's then copy the image to both sup's bootflash: and reload the redundent sup first so that it boots from new IOS and then you can reload the active sup.

If you have redundent sup config you might have to take extra care, so please plan a downtime for the activity.

Please refer the link for software upgrade.
