Cat6k discard frames inbound and outbound without any error counters being incremented.

A cat6k ethernet port is racking up large amounts of in and out discards but no error show on the port e.g crc etc.

Under what condition does the port consider it should discard inbound frames that are not errored? is it buffer related?

in-discard = Count of valid frames received which were discarded by the forwarding process. You will see this when you receive traffic on a trunk for a specific VLAN which the switch does not have other ports on that VLAN. You will also see this counter incrementing when the destination address of the packet is learned on the port the packet is recived.
