Catalyst 3548 connecting to a Cabletron Switch

We have a perculiar requirement as the Cabletron switches are able to forward one VLAN to another. I will explain more, with Cabletron switches a VLAN can only support one frame type, so to setup IPX and IP to work on the same vlan you need to flood the one VLAN (in our case we flood the IPX VLAN) into another. The problem I have is that I am connecting 2 Catalyst 3548 switches into 2 Cabletron SSR8000 switches and we need to have both IP and IPX running in the same VLAN. I have tried numerous configurations without any success. I was wondering if anyone has hit the same problem and if they have could they point me in the right direction if they found a work-around. Thanks.

Andy

Are you running securefast on the cabletron ? If you are this may very well be your problem as it is a proprietory protocol ? There is firmware to bring the cabletrons up in traditional mode. You should be able to do what you want doing this. However, in this mode the only vlans the cabletron will see is vlan1.
