CATALYST 4006 WITH SUPIII ----RMON not working

Cat 4006 with SupIII, RMON doesn't work. Found in CCO that we need RMON Agent License to get RMON to work on Cat4006.

Called Cisco Pre-Sales and they confirmed this, and also told that the license is an activation key that will be mailed to us.

Question is what is the command to enter the activation key on the Cat4006 switch. Its running IOS 12.1(8a)EW1

Cat4000 running IOS by default supports RMON and the RMON-MIB as there is no separate CLI command to enable it. This can also be verified by looking

at the Data Sheet:

"Remote Monitoring (RMON) software agent to support four RMON groups

(history, statistics, alarms, and events) for enhanced traffic management,

monitoring, and analysis"

The license makes it legal that the user is using RMON on the switch.

Then what does the command rmon native do. I believe it enables rmon on the ethernet interfaces.

I called Cisco Pre-Sales and they confirmed that RMON will not work without the license activation key.

What minimum configuration I need to configure RMON and get it functionng so that it talks to a NMS?

RMON native enables RMON on the Ethernet interface. In native mode, the router processes only packets destined for this interface.

I'm not a NMS expert and not sure what all commands need to be configured, but there is no activation key that needs to be entered to activate RMON on the Switch. License is purchased to make the use Legal. I suggest that you post this configuration question in the Network Management forum
