Catalyst 5509 can't connect to console

Hi,

I just received a cisco catalyst 5509 and I was trying to configure it. However, the console port will not allow us to connect to it. Is there any way to reset the supervisor engine to factory defaults, in case the speed of the port was changed? If not, is there another option for administering the switch?

A straight thru cable connected to the console with a terminal emulator set to 9600,8,n,1 should get you in . Get a terminal emulator like Tera Term , hyperterm can be problematic . console is the only way to configure the switch .

CAT5000 series Sup cannot run IOS. You need to run CAT OS

What type of SUP does it have? I think the older SUPs use the standard console cable (roll-over) but the newer SUP (III I think) uses a straight-through cable. If your console cable doesn't work try a straight-through cat5 cable.

Only can run catos on this box and it depends on how much dram you have on the box how high a version you can run .
