Catalyst 6500 auto-sense mdi-x

Hi all,

the catalyst 6509 with CatOS and IOS has the auto-sense mdi-x feature??

I didn't find this feature on web site, but if i connect the 6509 to another layer 2 switch ( 2950 or 1912) with a Straight-through cable or a cross cable the link goes up,why??

Thanks

MArco

Re: Catalyst 6500 auto-sense mdi-x

In 1999 the IEEE included Auto-Crossover State Machine (MDI/MDIX) as part of the 802.3 ab (Gigabit Ethernet) implementation. It appears that many vendors have extended that technology to work on with fast Ethernet links as well. However this feature is not implemented on all hardware. Older hardware, like the 1900 and 5500 series switches cannot negotiate the crossover state because they were built before the technology was adopted. Others are just not built with the appropriate functionality. You may also find this to be true of some 6500 modules.
