I would like to how does inter vlan routing is handled by this layer 3 switch. I understand without configuring any routing protocols like RIP and OSPF, a layer 3 switching is possible by assigning individual vlan interfaces with IP addresses or IPX network numbers. I was told since all the vlan interfaces are residing in the same switch and these virtual interfaces are residing in the same switch and would be considered as directly connected to the switch, routing protocols are not necessary. I am not talking about MLS here. I would like to know the logic behind this if this is true. I am not talking also about connecting this router to the outside world. It is just inter vlan routing. I would appreciate the response.
This is actually a pretty cool feature, i didn't even know it existed until I was looking for a solution to advertise a subnet (prefix in BGP talk), only if a certain condition existed. This is exactly what conditional advertisements does
