Catalyst 6509 with IOS native

I would like to understand how is the interaction between the BOOTVAR I can see with

SH BOOTVAR or with

REMOTE COMMAND SHOW BOOT

While I've found different output?

How is the behaviour during boot between supervisor and MSFC ?

I'd troubles while booting with SUP1 and MSFC2 ( which does not requires anymore the BOOTLOADER image )

Thanks in advance

Re: Catalyst 6509 with IOS native

sh bootvar will display the bootvariable settings for the RP(MSFC) while the remote command switch show bootvar displays it from the SP(Supervisor). Both should point to the same file/location. While booting, the SP boots upfirst and then the RP.

Router#sh bootvar

BOOT variable = sup-bootflash:c6sup11-psv-mz.121-11b.EX1,1

CONFIG_FILE variable =

BOOTLDR variable =

Configuration register is 0x2102

Standby is not up.

Router#remote command switch show bootvar

Switch-sp#

BOOT variable = bootflash:c6sup11-psv-mz.121-11b.EX1,1

CONFIG_FILE variable =

BOOTLDR variable =

Configuration register is 0x2102

Re: Catalyst 6509 with IOS native

Hi,

thanks for the reply. My question came from two strange situation; in the first I've seen thet the output from SH BOOTVAR and REMOTE COMMAND SHOW BOOT was different:

========================

-BOOT SETTINGS-

boot system slot0:c6sup12-psv-mz.121-12c.E2.bin

boot system sup-bootflash:c6sup12-jsv-mz.121-11b.E4.bin

boot bootldr bootflash:c6msfc2-boot-mz.121-12c.E2.bin

-SH BOOTVAR-

BOOT variable = slot0:c6sup12-psv-mz.121-12c.E2.bin,12;sup-bootflash:c6sup12-jsv-mz.121-11b.E4.bin,12

CONFIG_FILE variable does not exist

BOOTLDR variable = bootflash:c6msfc2-boot-mz.121-12c.E2.bin

Configuration register is 0x2102

-SH BOOT-

BOOT variable = slot0:c6sup12-psv-mz.121-12c.E2.bin,12;bootflash:c6sup12-jsv-mz.121-11b.E4.bin,12

CONFIG_FILE variable =

BOOTLDR variable does not exist

Configuration register is 0x2102

This could be because the BOOTLDR, that's in the MSFC, must not appear in the BOOTVAR of the supervisor ?

==================================

The second question is about an error message prompted after I issue the -REMOTE COMMAND:

-BOOT SETTINGS-

boot system slot0:c6sup11-psv-mz.121-12c.E2.bin

boot system sup-bootflash:c6sup11-jsv-mz.121-8a.e4.bin

boot bootldr bootflash:c6msfc-boot-mz.121-12c.E2.bin

-SH BOOTVAR-

BOOT variable = slot0:c6sup11-psv-mz.121-12c.E2.bin,12;sup-bootflash:c6sup11-jsv-mz.121-8a.e4.bin,12

CONFIG_FILE variable does not exist

BOOTLDR variable = bootflash:c6msfc-boot-mz.121-12c.E2.bin

Configuration register is 0x2102

-REMOTE COMMAND...-

SW-MV-DIST-G#remote command switch sh bootvar

Slot 17 in use

================================

Thanks a lot

Luigi
