Dear Internetworkers,
I've got a C2924XL switch which I am having difficulty having my console connection to issue commands. I can see it booting up and asking for "Press RETURN to get started!" but when I do nothing happens. I tried password recovery and it is still the same it just sits at the "switch:" prompt and does not respond back.
I have tried the standard 9600-8-Non_1 and almost all combinations of COM1 setting with speed parity stop bits etc but no luck.
Could someone please help?
Below is a copy of the standard outputs while the switch is booting;

Hi,
I suppose your terminal and cable are OK (are you able to connect to another switch with them?).
So there might be something wrong in the config.
I'd try
1) connect the switch to another switch by a cross cable and see if there is a CDP coming.
If yes, you should be able to get the switch IP address (by sh cdp nei details on the other switch)and try to telnet to it (unless there is an ACL preventing it in the config - do you know anything about the config content?).
2) If you are not successfull with 1), try the password recovery procedure (http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/474/pswdrec_2900xl.pdf) steps 1.-3. and you should be able to communicate with the switch via console then. If not I would consider a HW problem on the console port.
If yes, continue password recovery procedure to see whats wrong in the config (rename the config file and reboot the switch).
Regards,
Milan

The problem was the IOS version, upgrade your Switch.
I found the same problem on the same version (12.0.(5.2)XU.
I put "login" on line con 0, I can access on time after reboot, but, the other times I can't !
