Hi,

we have one Internet-access-router with one 12Mb ATM-PVC to the Service-Provider.

Behind our Firewall we have three Proxy-Servers (one for each department).

No we want to guarantee every Proxy-Server 4Mb for downloading from the

Internet.

So my idea was to create three classe (one for each proxy-server), and apply a

policy-map in which 4Mb is guaranteed for each server on the incoming

interface from the internet(service-policy input).

Or is it better to do it on the interface to the firewall (service-policy output) ??

Does anybody have another idea ?

You cannot reserve bandwidth on input. The router will take the packets as they come and treat them. The only thing you can do is CAR or marking.

The 2 places where you can reserve bandwidth are on the outgoing ATM interface of the Service provider router or on the outgoing interface connected to the firewall. The best place is of course on the SP router as this may be the 'slowest' part of this connection where bandwidth reservation might be the most important.

I understand that the best place for reserve bandwidth is the SP Router, but

we do not have access to this box.

So it should also be possible to limit the output on the Ethernetinterface to

9Mb and make a reservation on this interface ??
