Cisco 1720 Ethernet Port intermittently going down
I have 2 1720 routers. One is in Massachusetts. The other is in West Virginia. When a server in WV attempts to ping the MA router, no problem. When a server in MA attempts to ping the WV router, request time out messages appear. The problem is resolved by performing a shut and then a no shut command on the Ethernet interface. Operation works for a few hours, then the Ethernet interface drops connection again. I would like to know has any one seen this and what the resolution might be. Help would be much appreciated.
Re: Cisco 1720 Ethernet Port intermittently going down
The 1700's I've worked with have a rather high failure rate on their Fastehthernet ports (about 1 in 8). If it's not a cable or hub/switch problem (check for errors in sh interfaces F0/0), try another router if you have spare.
Also, try experimenting with the port's speed and duplex parameters.
