Cisco 2610 activity light turns off 10-15 seconds after powered on

Good Morning,

I just received a 2610 router. When I first received the router it was complaining about 'insufficient memory' and go to rommon mode. After upgrading the firmware I restarted the router, now when it starts up the activity light will turn off 15 seconds into the boot sequence; and dumps the following:

Is there a way I can recover from this?. I have looked at Cisco's web site but can find nothing about getting the router to where I can configure it

Also, is there a good book or URL you guys can point me to for greenhorns like myself getting started with a real Cisco router?

Thanks!

hi

i feel you are trying to upgrade the ios in your box if you are doing so i would better suggest to check out the DRAM,FLASH size reqd for the new ios code to work with.

to get the router back to shape would suggest to check out the link which has the steps to recover the box.

Re: Cisco 2610 activity light turns off 10-15 seconds after powe

Thank you for your response,

I have done the reset/reload procedure from that URL you provided. Memifo does give me the following:

------------------------------------------------

rommon 6 > meminfo

Main memory size: 16 MB.

Available main memory starts at 0x10000, size 16320KB

IO (packet) memory size: 20 percent of main memory.

NVRAM size: 32KB

rommon 7 >

------------------------------------------------

The firmware I am trying to upload is:

c2600-io3-mz.123-13.bin

the size of the firmware is 7.66 M

Once again thank you for your help!

Re: Cisco 2610 activity light turns off 10-15 seconds after powe

hi

meminfo shows that you have 16MB of memory space in your box.

i did try finding out the memory req for 12.3(12) which is around 32MB and i feel that mite be the possible reason for the rommon loop up which is happening out there with ur box.

can u upload a ios which requires only 16MB of memory and chek up ?

Again for the 12.3.13 ios code its has been referred as a Deferred Release can u try to upload some GD version of ios code which also fits into ur h/w resources available out there.

Re: Cisco 2610 activity light turns off 10-15 seconds after powe

Thank you,

What IOS would you suggest? Pardon me for my ignorance of this subject as I am new to this. Just point to where I have to go and I will give it a try.

Once again thank you for all your help!

Re: Cisco 2610 activity light turns off 10-15 seconds after powe

hi

i did give a fair try and found even 12.1 GD versions require 24MB is it possible out for you to upgrade it to either 24 or 32MB ?

do u have any other or the functional ios which was installed earlier in that box ?

Re: Cisco 2610 activity light turns off 10-15 seconds after powe

I will do as you suggest, I give up all hope with what I have currently. When I initially received the router it was complaining about insufficient memory after decrompressing the image. Figured reloading IOS might be of help, obviously I was wrong.

Where can you purchase these memory expansion slots (ebay or any other url you may know of), are they easy to install?

Thnak you for all your help and suggestions!
