Cisco 2980 Switch sh port result

Here is an output for a sh port on my switch for one of the ports I think is having problems (Collision).

Port Align-Err FCS-Err Xmit-Err Rcv-Err UnderSize

----- ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------

2/40 - 0 17961 216777 216598

Port Single-Col Multi-Coll Late-Coll Excess-Col Carri-Sen Runts Giants

----- ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- --------- --------- ---------

2/40 97594 95829 0 0 0 179 0

Does this indicate any problem on the LAN or on the switch ?

Any input is highly appreciated.

Thanks

What connects to this port? Is it a half duplex port? Check to see if there is an duplex mismatch. The following page should help as well

http://www.cisco.com/warp/customer/473/53.shtml#datalink

it is an ethernet 10M half duplex wouter (gateway for the LAN), but it is configured for speed 10 half duplex to match the switch port which has :

Console> (enable) sh port 2/40

Port Name Status Vlan Level Duplex Speed Type

----- ------------------ ---------- ---------- ------ ------ ----- ------------

2/40 connected 1 normal half 10 10/100BaseTX

Thanks

Single/multiple Collisions are normal in half duplex environment. You also see quite a few Xmit-Err and Rcv-Err which are an indication of excessive input and output rates of traffic. You might want to consider migrating to a 100/full duplex connection

Thanks for your help. I am researching the meaning for the sh port :

Port Single-Col Multi-Coll Late-Coll Excess-Col Carri-Sen Runts Giants AND Port Align-Err FCS-Err Xmit-Err Rcv-Err UnderSize.

Example : Single-Col , Multi-Coll, Excess-Col

But I do not know all of them. Can I use this info from the switch as a solid fact that there is a problem with the LAN caused by the 10 half duplex setting on the router which is connected to the switch. I have cleared the counters on the switch and here is the output of sh port 2/40 :

what is the following : Runts , UnderSize

Console> (enable) sh port 2/40
