CISCO 3560 or CISCO 3750

Hi,

I am in the mist of assisting my company on replacing 100mbps switches to 1000mbps switches. In terms of performance, which of the above switch should I go for or is their performance the same?

Performance-wise, the two platforms are roughly equivalent, as you can see from the performance sheet here:

Some differences between the platforms that you need to be aware of:

- The Cisco Catalyst 3560 switches do not support the Cisco GigaStack Technology or the Cisco StackWise technology available on the Catalyst 3750. However, a cluster of any combination of these platforms can be managed via a single IP address using the Cisco Network Assistant (CNA) software.

- The Catalyst 3550 and 3560 are Cisco's mainstream products for fixed configuration enterprise 10/100 and 10/100/1000 applications. The Catalyst 3750 switches are ideal when a group of interconnected switches requires higher levels of availability, redundancy, performance, and ease-of-use inherent in the StackWise Technology. The Catalyst 3750 also has Fast Ethernet configurations that support IEEE 802.3af and Cisco pre-standard Power over Ethernet.

Hi,

The way that you can get higher availability and redundancy from the 3750 series is by using switch stacking, which is not available with the 3560 series switches.

Hi,

I would like to add one more point.

The Cisco 3750 switch supports for 10GEports also. Although this is not available in every switch model.

Following is the 10GE switch-

Cisco Catalyst 3750G-16TD-16 Gigabit Ethernet 10/100/1000 ports and one 10 Gigabit Ethernet XENPAK uplink

In addition to thsi, the backplane of Cisco 3560 is not 32 Gbps for all switches. It waries from 8.8 Gbps to 32 Gbps depending on the switch model. While the backplane of all 3750 switches is 32Gbps.
