Does anyone know how to clear out the configuration buffers on a 800 series router (other than a reload)?

error:

router#wr mem

Building configuration...

% Configuration buffer full, can't add command: 10.10.10.10

%Aborting Save. Compress the config, Save it to flash or Free up space on device[OK]

Unfortunately you have to perform a reboot to clear the buffers.

Greg posted this question twice. Here is the link to the other thread:

http://forums.cisco.com/eforum/servlet/NetProf?page=netprof&forum=Network%20Infrastructure&topic=LAN%2C%20Switching%20and%20Routing&CommCmd=MB%3Fcmd%3Ddisplay_location%26location%3D.1ddb52a4

In that thread I suggested that Greg user the command to compress the config. Greg responded that this had fixed his problem.

In this case the problem is not accurately described by the error message pointing to the config buffers but the problem is the size of the config and the amount of NVRAM to store the config. Compressing the config allows the config to be stored in the available space.
