WE have catalyst 4506 with 6 vlans and intervlan routing enabled.
We have a problem pinging an outside PC.
We have enabled syslog at trap debug,
Made an acl with permit icmp any any, and enabled debug ip packet detail on the acl.
Now comes the problem ..whenever i ping the default gateway of another VLAN from a pc in another VLAN i see traffic in my syslog. If i ping a pc in one vlan to pc of another VLAN ..the ping works BUT no syslog event is seen.
Same happens when i ping an external PC ...the ping works BUT no SYSLOG event
Request pointers as to why this happening and how can it be solved
I think the reason is access list that redirecting all the traffic out to the syslog file . You verify the ACL permit and deny statements and disable the debug option and remove the unnesscary acl and and also check your subnet assignment in your vlans and try it again.
This is actually a pretty cool feature, i didn't even know it existed until I was looking for a solution to advertise a subnet (prefix in BGP talk), only if a certain condition existed. This is exactly what conditional advertisements does
