Cisco Catalyst 6500 Chassis Serial Number?

I've got a huge inventory project where I need to identify the serial numbers of all my 6500s. (And 5500s, and 5000s, and 4006s...) The issue is the way the sytems are mounted, I cannot get to the serial number on the outside. Do you know any cool and nifty way to get the chassis serial number? (Not the Sup #) Is it possible? Thanks!

M

For the older devices such as 55xx sh ver should surfice however on 6500's there is a neater little command you may want to try, it will give you serial no of chassis and PSU in fact all details for the chassis.

NB!! it is a hidden command so please type in the following, it is available on the 55xx but it does not provide as much info or in fact it will provide nothing of real value for inventory analysis.

CAT6500 (enable) sh chassisinfo

Chassis:

chassisID = 36866

chassisOEM = Cisco Systems

chassisModel = WS-C6509

chassisSerialNo = SCA033500X7

chassisPowerConsumption = 0

chassisFeatureBits = 0

chassisChangesBits = 0
