Cisco Express 500 High Cpu

I have just bought an Express 500 series switch and when connect the 7940 series phones the cpu runs high hence http management access to the device becomes extremely slow. After a while the switch reboots itself.

Did you set up the "Smartport" for phone/VoIP?

Re: Cisco Express 500 High Cpu

yes, I setup smart port the whole works. Do you think it has something to do with pre-standard ip phones (7940g)? The switch runs smoothly with 7912 but doesn't seem to like the 7940g. Pings to the switch exceeds to 70 ms as opposed <1ms when runs smoothly

Re: Cisco Express 500 High Cpu

Did you try any other smartport settings?

From the few posts I've seen on this, one of the more frequent fixes is to set the port to "Other."

If your phone has a PC plugged into it, this would probably not be a good thing.

If you do, then try unplugging the PC (with the setting still on "phone"), then try it with "other" and see if there's a difference (improves/worse).

Good Luck

Scott
