Hi Sam,
If it is 3500 XL series it is not a layer 3 switch and is a pure layer 2 switch but if it is 3550 or 3560 series switch yes it is a layer 3 switch and again depening upon whether it is EMI or SMI it will support advance routing and basic routing functionality.
