Cisco Router dumps

Hi,

I need to know about router dumps. How to configure and what is its purpose. Is it possible to create dumps for the interface status when the line protocol goes down and comes back up. Also is there any syslog server software in cisco for Cisco Routers like the one they have for cisco pix firewall.

Thanks in Advance

Re: Cisco Router dumps

You usually only take an IOS dump at the request of the developers to troubleshoot things like memory leaks, memory corruption etc.

Here are the commands to configure it

ip ftp source-interface TokenRing5/0

ip ftp username

ip ftp password

!

!

exception core-file tricera-core

exception protocol ftp

exception dump 171.68.103.66

Create iomem on FTP server to dump io mem

The command 'write core' forces a core dump.

You can use the command

logging

to write to any syslog server running on another device but there is not one that runs on the router.

Re: Cisco Router dumps

Thanks a lot on your mail. Is there any syslog server that is compatible with cisco routers like the one cisco has for cisco pix firewall.
