Anyone know any difference between Ciscowork and Ciscoview ? I have a corporate office connected to few remote sites by leased lines, all are using Cisco routers and switches, any Network Management tools that can be placed at the corporate office to monitor the network performance, any network botleneck caused by any devices (at remote sites or HQ office) ?

Is it true that all managed devices must be SNMP enabled for any of the Network Management tool used ?

Hi,

CiscoWorks is a suite of tools, like RME, CM and CiscoView.

When you are using the graphical interface of CiscoView you are configuring a Cisco device, either switch or router, via snmp.

You can use access-list to limit what hosts can contact snmp engine.

You can use MRTG to view a graph of interfaces load.

Regards.

Andrea.

CiscoWorks is a suite of applications while CiscoVIew is a single application which will show you the graphical picture of the device with all the modules/ports etc stats in real time. For your case you can also use nGenius RTM to monitor utilization for your devices but to get full RMON data you need ti have a probe/NAM. CiscoView can also be use for this purpose and have some graph capabilities as well.
