Clarification on Access List

Hi Friends,

how does it effect when we permit or deny in accesslist

using IP and TCP. can any eloberate me under which circumastances IP accesslist is used and when is TCP based accesslist is used.

If you are trying to block tcp traffic in general, or some other protocol which rides on top of IP, then you would use an IP access list. If you are trying to block all access to a given host, you would also use an IP access list.

If you are trying to block a specific application that runs on top of TCP, you'd use tcp in the access list, and then block the tcp port number.
