Clock Synchronisation on an unstructured E1 circuit

What are the thoughts regarding using recovered clock at both ends of an unstructured E1 Wan circuit. ie. Each router is in effect locking its clock to the transmit signal from its opposite partner.

What are the possibilities for clock slip etc and what would Cisco's recommendation be eg. Should we configure one end as internal (Master) and the other as recovered (Slave).

Re: Clock Synchronisation on an unstructured E1 circuit

Hi,

you already mentioned one of two possible solutions:

1. Set one router to derive the transmit clock from the internal source (master) and

the second router to derive the clock from the line (slave).

2. Ask your provider if he can deliver the clocking, even it is an unstrctured E1. The clocking is derived from the line code (HDB3) and not from the E1 structure.

This is at least possible here in Germany.
