Clustering C2950G-48-EI to a 3500XL

I am trying to get the 2950 to join an existing cluster. Usually when we add a 3500 it is automatically detected in the cluster builder. I have tried entering the Masters Mac address and configuration the same as our other 3500 switches and this still does not work. I have the switches connected via GBIC and the switch-port mode is Trunk.

I see traffic in both direction on the interface. though no traffic is passing through for me to ping anything.

Was there a specific change in the 2950 that need to be changed to allow it to cluster with older 3548XL switches?

Can it cluster with a 3500XL switch?

This cluster has only 2 switches in it.

The 2950 is brand new out of the box.

Hi,

is my understanding correct the 3548XL is the master?

This is not recommended.

"If your switch cluster has Catalyst 2900 XL, Catalyst 2940, Catalyst 2950, Catalyst 2950 LRE, Catalyst 2955, and Catalyst 3500 XL switches, the Catalyst 2950 or Catalyst 2955 switch should be the command switch. "
