How do I access the command Line interface so I can configure my cisco 2600 router series. I do not seem to know where to do this in my netbook. To which port also can connect the cable to give the router internet.

Thank you for your help and the advice. Do you think after this cable the putty cli will allow me to write by hitting the enter key twice?

Yes! Everything else looked correct.

Just make sure you install the Windows drivers for this new USB cable and choose the right COM port from Device Manager.

Tim

Hey Tim, another question on my Cisco router, what is the function of the space where the network interface card goes? What does a NIC do to the router. Check below

Hi,

That's an empty slot where you can insert a module. For example if you need 4 switch ports, you can plug in a HWIC-4ESW interface card. Or if you need a T1 interface, there's an interface card for that as well. Lots of options based on what you might need.

Tim

Can I put a wireless NIC. Just curious.

What is the function of the DSU/ CSU port?

Thank you.

A CSU/DSU is a digital-interface device used to connect a data terminal equipment (DTE), such as a router, to a digital circuit, such as a Digital Signal 1 (T1) line.

The above is from Wikipedia.

You can see which HWIC cards your router supports on this page:

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/routers/1600-series-routers/15363-wics.html

Doesn't look like any Cellular / WLAN cards are on the list because the 2600 model is older. The 2800 series for sure can.

  • Khrushchev Tim, I am trying to change the password for this router since it seems it has one for the previous user but it went let me.  Please advice.

Hi there,

You need to password reset it... you can use this guide here which explains how: http://www.internetworkingcareer.com/blog/perform-password-recovery-cisco-routers/

After I do this, what is going to be the username?

Hi,

You have asked many questions under this one forum topic which is no longer relevant to the original question. This is not going to be helpful to anyone else at this rate.

If you want to continue this discussion, you can create a topic here: http://www.internetworkingcareer.com/forums/networking-discussion/ and i will be happy to respond to you directly.

Otherwise, please create a new topic in Cisco forums and someone will pick it up.

Regards,

Tim

Thank you. I will do that.

Can I put a wireless NIC there? Just curious. Thank you. And which is the better one?

I got the device manager thing.
