Compact resources on BPX

We have BPX that sometimes have a mismatch between the configuration they have in a card and the reseources they think they have occupied.

For example, one of them has 2000 conns free in a card and when we try to increase the AR conns, it says that it has only 1534 free connections.

I have found in Cisco tech documents, that it may be that the card has a mismatch in its database, and we have to switchcc or reset th BXM with the problem to solve it. (Only after reset the card we can increase the conns to the maximun, switchcc doesn´t work)

There is a command on IGX, "compactrsrc" that seems to correct this problem.

Is there any command like this on BPX?

How service affecting is it?

(We have sw 9.3.11 on BPX and IGX)

Regards,

Cesar

Re: Compact resources on BPX

'resetcd -h' - this command will reset the card and any mismatch in the database will be refreshed.

Thanks,

It's a pity there isn´t any less disruptive command.

Hi Cesar,

What command do you issue in order to check how many conns free you still have?

Do you have partition in your BPX?

What is the firmware level of yours BXM and BCC? Have you already checked in the bugtool whether this is a bug?

Re: Compact resources on BPX

Hi Giuseppe,

We have BXM MFM and BCC HHM, software 9.3.11

We have PNNI with SES controlers over BPX.

We issue dspchuse to check how many conns we have.

I'm not used to bugtool, and I haven´t checked if there is a bug.

Now we now we have to reset the card (as I told, switchcc doesn't work) and we do it when necessary.

Re: Compact resources on BPX

Hi cesar,

In our network we burned all the BMX with the firmware MFW and it has run fine for the past 5 months. We have the same firmware for the BCC.

Unfortunately I don't have PNNI so I can't tell if I don't have your same problem.

By the way , give a look at the bug tool:

http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/Support/Bugtool/home.pl

Or download each release notes of all the firmware that came out after MFM in order to check whether they fixed this bug.

Re: Compact resources on BPX

Hi Giuseppe,

I have not found any bug with the bugtool.

Even if it is a bug that is solved in a later release (FW or SW), the process for upgrading anything in the network takes a very long time (the custumer tests all before introducing it in the network).

I think that, for the moment, we can live with resetcd.

Thanks,

Cesar
