can you connect a 1000base sx sfp module directly to a 1000base sx module?

The cisco website kind of suggests the remote connection has to be sfp as well!

Thanks in advance

Lee

Hi Lee,

You certainly can do so...The difference when using an SFP is just the connector, which has to be an LC connector. You can by LC to SC cables which will let you connect SFPs to GBICs.

Hope that helps - pls rate the post if it does.

Thanks,

In that case a think I have a damaged fiber cable!

I've connected a known working 1000base sx module to a 1000base sx sfp in a 3560 and can't seem to get a link.

Both ends are configured for auto-nego and no flow control. I've tried configuring both as no auto-nego and setting flowcontrol both still no link.

The cable looked suspect to start with as there was the slightest kink near the end.

have you experienced any problems connecting these two modules in the past?

Regards

Lee

Hi Lee,

I've used that combo in a 3750 without any issues. It would appear to be the cable if you have already checked the auto-nego settings and such...

You are using a multi-mode cable, aren't you ?

Paresh

Yes I'm using multi-mode. Can't test the cable as it's the only one I have.

Thanks for your help.

try configuring "speed nonegotiate" under the 3750's interface and under the 6509 interface if the 6509 is running native. If catos try "set port x/x negotiation disable.
