Compression on an ATM interface

I have a interface on a 7206VXR router that connects our campus to a remote site. There is an 15mbps ATM PVC between the sites, but it is being saturated by log shipping between the sites. I would like to compress the log shipping, but I am unable to find the correct commands. The IOS I am running notes that ATM compression is a command available, but when I put in a question mark after ATM compression is not one of the available commands. Has anyone out there done this?

Chris,

Read this document that clarifies support for compression on ATM interfaces in Cisco routers.

Compression over native ATM interfaces is not supported in Cisco IOS. However, if you are running Multilink PPP over Frame Relay or ATM (MLPoFR /MLPoATM), you can enable compression on the Virtual Templates in use for these circuits and thereby "achieve" compression over the ATM circuit by compressing the ppp packets. Can you send me a link to the document you are making a reference to where ATM compression is available? What Cisco IOS version are you running. Please see:

If you are not running any real time application, then employing MLPoATMFR just for compression may be ill advised. Have you considered applying some QoS mechanism like CBWFQ on the ATM PVC to ensure that the logs do not hog bandwidth during congestion?
