config mode text nvram on 6500 L2 CatOS

I've configured on cisco 6500 a config text mode.

i use this command:

Console> (enable) set config mode text nvram

On cisco 6500 i have two supervisor.

I need to do other command configuration for the redundancy.

I search in cisco.com but i don't find example of configuration of cisco 6500 catOS with two Supervisor.

Can you help me?

Thanks

Hi,

If you have 2 Sup's on the chassis by default one goes to active and other goes to standby state. Do "show mod " to make sure of that.

Bydefault Active sup syncs the config and Catos image to the standby sup when they first become active. After that once you make the chages, the configs are synced everytime. The configs will be synced automatically and you dont have to configure any special things.

Re: config mode text nvram on 6500 L2 CatOS

when you configure the text mode nvram , in the flash i find a new file created and named switch.cfg

if you don't use the text mode the switch synchronize correctly.

do you use the configuration mode text nvram ?

thanks

Re: config mode text nvram on 6500 L2 CatOS

Hi,

There are 2 config modes:

1 Binary (default, saves and syncs the config auto)

2 Text (where you have to do write mem or copy command to save the changes).

In 2nd mode you have to maunally save the config after making changes. So once you save the config after that, it should sync it automatically to the standby.

We use binary, its in compressed form and takes less memory.

Re: config mode text nvram on 6500 L2 CatOS

my problem was born because when i inserted in my cisco 6513 , 11 module of 48 port rj45 .....

the message of error was:

%MGMT-4-OUTOFNVRAM: Out of NVRAM space

Description

You see a message that is similar to this when the system runs out of NVRAM space:

%MGMT-4-OUTOFNVRAM:Out of NVRAM space: (62,39204,524288,24976)

For to resolve this problem i must save the configuration on a file and not i NVRAM.

I save in config mode text on a file named switch.cfg

This file is located in the Bootflash:

My problem is that if the supervisor active become down , the standby became active but without configuration file updated.

thanks
