config.text.renamed

Hi guys,

I unplug the power of my catalyst 3560 by mistake, then everything gets crazy. The ios image is c3560-ipbase-mz.122-25.SEB4.bin. I lost the configuration file. why?

I have access to the console port and i type show flash, the results are:

config.text.renamed

vlan.dat.renamed

The device lost all the configuration!

I need to reconfifure everything again!

Can you explain me what could be the problem here!?

Thank you.

Re: config.text.renamed

Hi Nunos,

The issue is that the configuration files are renamed to a new filename that is not known to the switch in its NVRAM. You need not reconfigure the switch.

Please copy the following commands and paste it to get the configurations back.

-------------------------------------------

rename flash:config.text.renamed flash:config.text

rename flash:vlan.dat.renamed flash:vlan.dat

write mem

reload

--------------------------------------------

After you paste the above commands the output will show the correct filename and the configurations will be back on the switch after the reload.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Param

Re: config.text.renamed

Hi Nunos,

The only way that the config files are renamed is if the user presses the mode button for more than 10 seconds. The LEDs will start blinking after 3 seconds, and after 10 seconds the config files will be renamed and the switch will reboot.

These are the message that occurs:

0:01:21: %SYS-7-NV_BLOCK_INIT: Initalized the geometry of nvram

00:01:21: %EXPRESS_SETUP-6-CONFIG_IS_RESET: The configuration is reset and the system will now reboot

00:01:22: %SYS-5-RELOAD: Reload requested

This is a way to clear the configuration from a reconfigured switch so that normal express setup can be used.

There is a bug related to this behaviour.

Bug Id CSCee75743.

You can check the details of this bug using the following link of bug toolkit.

http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/Support/Bugtool/onebug.pl?bugid=CSCee75743&Submit=Search

The possible workaround is In global configuration mode, use the command "no setup express" to disable express setup.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Re: config.text.renamed

Hi,

unfortunately I don't have an answer to your 'why'-question but a couple of months ago we had exactly the same problem with a 3550.

Our consulter argued somebody did a password-recovery but nobody had physical access to the switch.

I think we're also running the same IOS, I'll check that at monday in the office.

Since the rename- and reboot- procedure it works fine.

Best regards

Rolf Fischer
