Hi guys,
I have started 'playing' with Cisco equipment and at the moment I am going through the ICND book. When switching into global configuration command I type my desired IP address for the switch and press enter. Instead of getting this IP address I get the error message 'invalid input detected at...' I checked the command several times of correctness, the syntax is the same as in the ICND book.
To describe the situation in more details. When starting the Switch, I turn into privileged Exec mode and then I type 'conf t'. Everything OK till here, but then I am standing in front of the problem mentioned above.
Can anybody help please,
best regards
Naim

You need to give the IP address to the management VLAN interface

The following pages should be useful as well

Thank you very much for that good support. Now I have got an other question. The result of the command 'sh ip' is nothing more than the number '1'. The ICND book promises the output of the IP address, subnet mask and default gateway settings?
Thanks in advance,
Nadschim
