Configuring 2948 - GL3

Hello all,

I need to disable spanning tree on a Cat 2948-GL3 switch. The IOS Version is 12.0(14)W5(20). I dont see any commands to do this. Can somebody help ?

Regards,

Michael Fuller

Hi Michael,

Rather than disabling spanning tree, you might want to configure spanning tree portfast. This setting defeats the initial forwarding delay, which is why you might want to turn it off. In general it is never adviseable to disable spanning tree as you may introduce bridge-loops.

Hi Leo,

The ports in question will be connected to a server. I want to configure FEC between the server and the switch. Would it not be better if I disable spanning-tree on those ports ?

Re: Configuring 2948 - GL3

Hi Michael,

1) I do NOT recommend disabling spanning tree on 2948G-L3 at all.

I remember a bug in the past: after disabling spanning tree on a port MAC addresses were not removed from forwarding table immediately after the port disconnect, the switch was waiting 5 minutes to age them out.

2) Are you sure your server NIC is supporting FEC?

Milan

Hello,

try "bridge-group [Nr.] spanning-disabled".

Best regards, Martin
