Configuring a subnet mask.

Hello all,

I heard on a training course somewhere that instead of typing:

Router(config-if)#ip address 10.1.1.1 255.255.255.0

you could type in, to save time, this:

Router(config-if)#ip address 10.1.1.1/24

To make this abbreviated method work, do you need to enable it somewhere in global configuration to understand the /24? Or is it only supported on newer releases of IOS?

Hope someone can clarify so that I can spend more time drinking coffee than typing in subnet masks in full!!

Re: Configuring a subnet mask.

Nope, it would be nice, but you can't do it yet.
