Configuring a switch

I have a Catalyst 2950 Switch, and I was wondering if it is possible to configure the switch to disable a port automatically, if it is broadcasting or recieving too much data, thereby clogging up the rest of the switch. Please let me know if there is any software, or even hardware, that I can install to rectify this problem. Thank you very much.

Try the broadcast/multicast suppression feature discussed at URL: http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat2950/12119ea1/2950scg/swtrafc.htm

You can program the switch to err-disable a port

if the port is sending out broadcasts or multicast packets beyond a certain threshold.
