configuring a VLAN on a 2950

Folks,

I have a 48 port 2950 with 46 ports on vlan3 - the switch ip address is declared in this vlan.

I also have 2 ports in vlan4 but they don't see each other & the switch ports lights are amber.

I have assigned both ports to vlan4 with the 'switchport access vlan 4' statement but i can't ping from server to server & the servers can't ping anything except themselves

Do i need to declare an int vlan4 and open that interface?

Apologies if this sounds silly but i need to get this sorted out by tomorrow AM.

thanks in anticpation

You do not need interface VLAN 4. Have you created VLAN 4 in the VLAN database? Can you paste the output of sh vlan and sh int fastethernet 0/x?

You're 100% right.

After my post i found a link on cisco.com detailing how to set it all up

Again - thanks for your input
