Configuring Fast Etherchannel on Catalyst 3550-24

I have five servers, each equipped with 2 NICs (10/100). Every servers are connected to Catalyst 3550 through the 2 NICs. To make load-balancing, I configure every two ports of 3550 as fast etherchannel in layer 2 and destination-based mode. After configuring, the status of the two ports is down. There isn't an error message here. What's wrong with my configuration?

Are the servers configured to channel? Did you force it on or tell it to negotiate?

What NICs are you using? 3COM and Intel have certain adapters that support what they call "Adapter Teaming" (software on CD ROM) You can configure both NICS as active or one active, one standby.
