Configuring switch port security using 802.1X

I have a cisco 1811 router and I'd like to setup port security on the switch ports (8 x switch ports). I found that I cannot do port security based on MAC address security because the functionality is not there. So I was wondering whether it's possible for me to authenticate WinXP Pro PCs with the switch ports on this router or not? I thought of authenticating using 802.1x using a local database (username) configured locally on the router but not sure if it's possible or not. Thanks for your responses.

Re: Configuring switch port security using 802.1X

Hello Vincent,

I don't think a router with switch module is capable of doing 802.1x authentication.

It can however act as a local RADIUS server for remote site dot1x authentication.
