Connect two switch with gbic ZX --- PROBLEM for the Laboratory TEST

Hello,

i've this problem. I must try a connection with 2 switch.

A 4500L3 with a 3550.

The fiber from to site A to site B is 90km and the gbic is ZX.

How can i use the 2 switch for the test of the fiber gigaport in laboratory with a fiber of 5 meters?

I haven't a physical attenuator ...... Can i tell a the switch of to limit a power of laser of the gbic ?

Thanks for your help.

I do not think there is any other way to test it but use an attenuator. There is no way I know of by means of which you can limit the power the ZX GBIC will transmit signals at.

I never heard the power of the GBICs can be adjusted.

I think attenuator is the best way to go...

You can use a very very very long fiber jumper..but you will have to guess the optical loss ( if you don't have a light meter ) and you probably not going to simulate the 90Km of fiber ...

sorry..

You can't adjust the power on the gbic. Your best bet would be a long jumper cable with heavy attenuation.
