Connecting different VLANs with non-trunk link

Suppose we have Cat-A with on port designated to VLAN1 and Can-B with one port desigated to VLAN 2. Then we interconnect these ports with non-trunk link. The question is: can Station-A sitting in VLAN1 on Cat-A communicate with Station-B sitting in VLAN2 on Cat-B?

Yes you can. You will need a cross-over cable to do this. Without a trunk link VLANs have only local significance. Stating the obivious you have make sure that your network (IP, IPX, ..)adressing schemes match.
