Connecting GE backbones to existing FE backbone.

I would be doing this change and I would like to confirm the end result.

I would be connecting 2 new GE backbones to my exterior boundary routers to my campus backbone. Currently there is only a single FE connection to the exterior routers.

My question is :-

1) When I enable the GE backbone, I expect the routing table to take sometime to use the new GE backbone due to its better cost. I am using EIGRP as the routing protocol.

i) Does it take something like 90 seconds for the routing table to be updated and then its neighbors will start using the new GE backbones ?

ii) Am I missig anything else that I should be checking ?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Hello,

the neighbor discovery and adjacency establishment is immediate, it should not take more than a few seconds for the update packets to be exchanged an the adjacency to occur.

To be sure, you might want to clear the routing table manually as well (clear ip route *) after the new neighbor has been connected.
