If I have a site with a cisco 1800 with 2 ethernet connections that is going to be connected to the other site via a 100 meg les circuit, on one of the interfaces, rather than using different ip's can I use ip unnumbered on an ethernet interface ?
I believe you have given good advice. And I believe that Carl may have no choice. IP unnumbered is only for point to point interfaces. And while the connection that he is planning may effectively be connecting only two devices and so inherently sort of point to point, I believe that IOS will not allow unnumbered on an Ethernet interface which IOS regards as explicitly multi-access.
This is actually a pretty cool feature, i didn't even know it existed until I was looking for a solution to advertise a subnet (prefix in BGP talk), only if a certain condition existed. This is exactly what conditional advertisements does
