Connecting to 3Com Netbuilder II WAN port with Cisco 1720 Via T1

I have a 3Com Netbuilder II with a 4-port WAN card running Version 11.1.0.02 attempting to connect to a Cisco 1720 runing 12.1 software over frame relay. The Interface and Protocols are up on the s0 and S0.1 interfaces. On the Netbuilder II the Port, Path and Protocol are up. I have attempted to connect the routers back to back and running PPP I can't ping any thing. But running HDLC I ping and Loop back the routers. I took a 2nd 1720 and connected them back-to-back and they work Point to point..

Does anyone know of an issue with the 3Com routers and Cisco 1720s??

Any help appreciated

Re: Connecting to 3Com Netbuilder II WAN port with Cisco 1720 Vi

I believe that the default FR encapsulation on the Cisco is "Cisco." Try changing it to "ietf."

router(config-if)#encapsulation frame-relay ietf

Hopefully your Netbuilder supports that fairly standard standard. As for PPP back-to-back, sometimes it requires some tweaking when connecting accross mulitple vendor platforms because the defaults are often a little different.
