Hello,
We are testing a Cisco 800 ISDN router for perform electronic payments over IP. We want the connection was up only when the application has an open socket. We want the connection go down when the application closes the socket. We have actually configured a idle-timeout in the dialer interface, but I think we are misusing the line.
Thank you for your support.
Regards.

You need to determine the IP characteristics of the application (source address and/or port) and specify that data as interesting, everything else as unintersting. Set a "dialer hold-queue" so that packets aren't lost while dialing (if the application can withstand the delay), and a low dialer-idle timeout (especially assuming that the duration of these transactions will be small).

Does the application sends any traffic while its idle OR when socket is open and during time where there is no transection ? If the socket is closed after transections and there is no traffic, you can Try to tune the idle-timeout according to the max time you need to make a transection plus 1 or 2 secs or so..
