I am in the process of planning an HSRP implamentation between 2 x Cat 4507's.
We have a number of Unix servers that point to one of these 4507's as there default gateway. From what I can see, once we configure HSRP between the 2 x 4507's the Unix servers ARP table will not automatically refresh to show the new HSRP MAC address of it's default router.
Can anybody clarify if sending a PING from the 'active' HSRP Router will be good enough to refresh the Unix ARP table ? (as it contians a new source MAC address). I am trying to avoid re-botting the Unix servers if possible.
The IOS version on the 4507's is 12.1(19)EW1, which I think only support HSRP v1.
Any help/advice RE HSRP configurations would be greatly appreciated.
You have to change the default gateway also in your UNIX server. The default gateway will be your HSRP virtual ip address and once you are done you can initiate any request from one unix server to another in different subnet it will refrech the arp entry for unix server also.
