Console connection

I have two identical (1600) routers. I can get into one of them with a console cable but I get no response from the other. Any suggestions as to why? Can, for example, the console port be disabled? If so, how would I tell and how would I enable it?

Phil.

Re: Console connection

It cannot be disabled but the speed setting can be changed by changing the config register settings. The default speed is 9600 but it can be set to 4800, 2400 or 1200 so try connecting at these speeds.

The following URL describes how to change this -

Re: Console connection

Unless terminal speed changing helps you to access the router via console, I recommend you to try this method

-power off router and unplug console cable

-power on router and wait for 4-5 seconds

-plug console cable and hit enter on hyperterminal etc.

this strange method works some of our 1600s.
