copy file to flash?

I realize that this is a simple problem but for some reason I can't figure it out and feel very stupid. I am setting up an ITS router and it tells me to copy some files to flash about 8 or so files. But when i issue copy tftp flash and then enter in the file name and the ip it asks me to confirm erasing flash. how can i put the files in flash and still keep my IOS there? i wouldn't want to delete my ios. :)

Re: copy file to flash?

Hi,

what router type and IOS version is that?

What happens when you don't confirm flash erasing? Is the copy cancelled?

Re: copy file to flash?

the router is a 2611 and the ios is c2600-ik9o3s3-mz.122-15.T5.bin there is no option not to confirm, you have to. the only way out is ctrl+c. confirm or the copy is cancelled.

Re: copy file to flash?

Hi,

it should be possible to press "n" in the time the router requires the flash erase confirmation.

See the output from my 2620, I beleive your 2611 behaviour should be similar.

2620#sh flash

System flash directory:

File Length Name/status

1 5685784 c2600-is-mz.120-4.T.bin

2 2510 pokus [deleted]

3 2510 pokus [deleted]

[5691000 bytes used, 2697608 available, 8388608 total]

8192K bytes of processor board System flash (Read/Write)

2620#copy tftp flash

Address or name of remote host [10.2.13.147]?

Source filename [pokus]? test

Destination filename [test]?

Accessing tftp://10.2.13.147/test...

Erase flash: before copying? [confirm]n

Loading test from 10.2.13.147 (via FastEthernet0/0): !

[OK - 2510/4096 bytes]

Verifying checksum... OK (0xEC29)

2510 bytes copied in 0.288 secs

2620#sh flash

System flash directory:

File Length Name/status

1 5685784 c2600-is-mz.120-4.T.bin

2 2510 pokus [deleted]

3 2510 pokus [deleted]

4 2510 test

[5693576 bytes used, 2695032 available, 8388608 total]

8192K bytes of processor board System flash (Read/Write)

2620#

What I'm missing is the squeeze command which would release the space occupied by deleted files and is available on other platforms.

BTW, what does "ITS router" mean? Which files are necessary to copy?

Milan

Re: copy file to flash?

WOW. I feel extremely stupid. I knew that! I just said to myself "oh yeah you can type 'n' to not erase" its 3:30am here.......yawn long day. but thanks for thinking for me when i wasn't! anyways thanks man. ITS is shorthand for IOS telephony service is like cisco callmanager except running on a router it acts as a registration point for VoIP phones and assigns phone extensions, etc. its a very neat feature. :)
