CPU Load balancing

I have a 5500 and want to add another RSM to share the CPU load. I do not have any extra slots on my 5500. How can I add another 5500 with an RSM to share the load of the first one (router load only). I want to leave all my ports connected to my first 5500 switch but want to share the rsm load.

ANy help would be appreciated.

thanks

Re: CPU Load balancing

Has anyone ever done this?

Re: CPU Load balancing

Network devices generally don't work this way. For all intents and purposes, "load sharing" the CPU usage of 2 or more devices entails dividing the traffic load between them.

Re: CPU Load balancing

Have you enabled CEF and MLS?

If not I would recommend enabling both as it will make a big difference to the RSM CPU load.

Let me know if you require more information and I will send you some links.

Re: CPU Load balancing

This document has good information. If you have access-lists, read the section on access-list as some options prevent MLS working on the interface.

Hope that helps.
