CPU Utilization

I have a 4500 router and the CPU Utilization is running at peaks between 75% and 90%. My question is this, can adding more memory help the CPU Utilization or will I need a new router?

Thanks Larry

Re: CPU Utilization

I wouldn't look to memory to relieve your CPU. There are often other things you can do though. Do you know and accept what process(es) is/are causing this level of utilization? I recently had some clients replace 3600 series routers with 7200 series routers just because CPU use was "high." I looked at thier 3600 configs and found all kinds of unnecessary processes turned on. Had they asked before jumping at a "solution," we could have saved them a lot of time and money.

Re: CPU Utilization

You need to check this first

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/63/highcpu.html

and let us know. It may be better to open a TAC case.
