Creating Sub interfaces for vlan routing

Hi When I try and create a sub interface on a 2620 router on Fast ethernet 0/0 I get the following

Configuring IP routing on a LAN subinterface is only allowed if that

subinterface is already configured as part of an IEEE 802.10, IEEE 802.1Q, or ISL VLAN

I cant set any encapsulation on the sub interface at all. Even after I get that message.

Any ideas???

Thanks

What software version are you running? Look at the following page for config example and software requirement

it seems to me that you can't configure the ip address before estabilish the encapsulation, so put the encapsulation first and after that try the ip address..

Re: Creating Sub interfaces for vlan routing

You will also need a version of IOS which supports this feature, I had this same problem last week and I had to upgrade to IP Plus.
