CSS1100 Terminal Session Sharing / Snooping on other users

How to share a terminal session with another user

that is logged into a box?

How the users will be able to share what they are doing, and let

multiple users watch what is being configured at the same time.

Re: CSS1100 Terminal Session Sharing / Snooping on other users

This works on all CSS platforms, and WebNS versions 3.10 through

5.x (maybe others). If a user is configuring the switch or issuing commands, and you

want to watch their progress, and monitor for correctness.

(Or you just want a chance to drive!)you can snoop their terminal session.

First run "show lines" and note which virtual terminal (vty) they

are using.

In that output, the session with the asterisk is your active session.

Then enter the debug mode, "esc x". You need administrator privileges

to enter the debug mode. (Be very careful as the debug mode

can cause serious performance issues if used incorrectly)

Run "snoop vty(x)"

Now everything you type will show on their screen, and what they type

will show up on your screen.

There is a caveat where if a page is paused with a "More" prompt, the

subsequent pages will not be displayed on the snooping terminal. This

problem can be minimized by setting the number of lines on the

terminal to a larger value (ex. "css150-1# terminal length 150")

To end your snoop, press " r"
